Kevin Labanc goes "Straight to the Top" of a Barrie Colts scoring record. #OHL

This has been a pretty great week for Barrie Colts forward Kevin Labanc. This past Wednesday he earned his first pro deal when he signed a NHL entry level contract with the San Jose Sharks.

Later on that same day he would go on to tie the Barrie Colts single season record for most points with 121 points. The record was held by Sheldon Keefe who set the previous record back in the 1999-2000 season.

Last night Labanc earned an assist which earned him the top spot with 122 points in a single season.

This season, Labanc has averaged .62 goals and .73 assists a game. If he can at least maintain that pace over the remaining 5 games he should be able to get 6 more points to increase his single season record.

This is not the first record Labanc has beat this season. He beat the Colts single season record for assists. The previous record holder was, well him.. Actually, he broke the record last season when he put up 76 assists. When he set that record it was also Sheldon Keefe who held the previous record with 73 assists in the 1999-2000 season. Right now Labanc has 84 assists and with 5 games remaining in the season there is plenty of time for him to pad those records.

To look further into the damage Labanc has caused on Colts records, he currently has 264 points over his 3 seasons with the Colts which leaves him 4th all time for total points as a Barrie Colt. His 80 goals with the Colts has him 8th for all time Colts goal scorers, while his 184 assists has him 3rd all time. If Kevin can total 5 more assists this year he will beat the all time assists record of 189 which is held by Colts all time scoring leader Bryan Little and Daniel Tkaczuk.

Do you think Kevin will be able to add more records to his resume before the season ends? Let us know in the comments!
